Frequently asked questions

At what age can my child begin riding lessons?

Avalon accepts students for private lessons starting at 4 years old. Safety is of utmost importance, so our youngest students will often begin riding with the instructor, then graduating to being led while riding alone, then progressing to riding alone without the lead line.

As an experienced equestrian looking to show, what are my options at Avalon?

We welcome experienced equestrians and are excited to help you continue on your journey. If you already own a horse, we talk with you about your current path and future goals, then determine the best training options for both you and your horse. If you are not yet an owner, we can help there too! There are options available to lease horses when available, or we can help you to make that all important decision to purchase your next (or first) equine partner! Pam's expertise is in matching just the right horse to help push you to become a better horse person and fulfill your dreams!

What forms of payment do you accept for lessons, camp, board or shows?

Avalon accepts cash, check or Venmo! Our Venmo id is Avalon Stables (@Avalon50ind-180pack). If you choose to pay by cash or check, money is due either in the mail or in the box on Pam's desk in the office before your scheduled lesson or camp begins.

Can adult beginners take lessons?

Absolutely! We love allowing adults to find a new hobby that is both challenging and rewarding. Not only do equine activities provide stress relief, they are also great exercise!

Do you have gift certificates available?

Yes! Looking for a gift for that horse-crazy person in your life, or need something thoughtful and different for that person that has everything? Even that last minute gift for that person you forgot? Contact us and we will be happy to produce a gift certificate for you! Gift certificates can be used for lessons or camps.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to ride - are there other options?

Of course! We offer driving lessons as well, from children to adults. Driving is a great way to learn how to communicate with the horse without riding, and it still a great way to get fit as you enjoy your time in the great outdoors!

Are horses available to rent or for trail rides?

We are a formal riding school, so there are no rentals or trail rides available. We are here to teach all skills horse care, riding and driving, but there are no trails near our location. If you are looking to learn in a structure environment with safety as the first priority, then we are the place for you!
