Tour Avalon

There is something very special about Avalon Riding Academy and Stables. A drive through the countryside is a pleasant prelude to a hideaway that greets you with a refreshing aroma of horses, squeaky-clean leather, fresh-cut hay, and the surrounding pine forest.

Mornings echo with the hoof beats of equine athletes being conditioned and trained for the show ring. Throughout the day you will find men and women of all ages in the ring working with their show horses, while afternoons are filled with lessons where riders are grouped by age and skill to work with our training staff.

Avalon has been in operation since 1995 as a riding academy and horse training facility, and specializes in the training and showing of American Saddlebreds, Hackney Ponies, and Roadster driving horses.  You will find that we are a full-service facility that provides everything a person needs to enter the world of horse showing, from lessons to help with purchasing your horse.

Our property features wide open pastures surrounded by a fragrant pine forest, ponds, and huge shade trees.

Welcome to the Avalon tour!

When entering Avalon, you'll first notice the huge pastures on both sides of the drive, filled with healthy amounts of grass and shade trees.

Arriving at the main entry area, you'll see our parking lot and office, attached to the main barn. This serves as the gathering place for everyone at the barn, and our bulletin board which features the latest news event information.

The main barn features 12 stalls, the main tack room, and four spacious wash racks.

Barn #2 is at the end of the main drive. This barn is the largest, featuring 20 stalls, as well as its own tack room and wash racks.

All areas in our barn are open, safe, well ventilated, and clean. Skylights provide natural light, and separate overhead lighting enhances safety. Wide aisles, cool concrete-block construction, and spacious stalls are an added bonus.

Toward the front of the facility to the right of the main road is the "Mini" barn.  It gets its name from when it was used to house Miniature Horses.  The minis are gone, but the name has stayed! This barn has been updated to provide the same accommodations as the other barns on the property.

If they're not working in the barn office, you'll find Pam Roush and her team hard at work teaching lessons or training horses.

Lessons also include learning how to drive a horse with our hands-on driving instruction.

A viewing platform provides shade, refreshments, and a safe place from which to watch lessons in the large, well-lit riding arena.

Our lunge arena is a safe place for controlled exercise of horse and rider, or for our Youth Camp kids.

When not working, the horses enjoy time in our spacious turnout pastures.  It's important to give them time to relax so they stay mentally fresh.

This concludes the Avalon tour!
